The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a crucial health initiative in response to recent devastating floods in Accra. Effective immediately, the NHIS is providing free registration for all individuals affected by the floods, including those impacted by the rising cases of cholera and diarrhea.

This measure aims to ensure that flood-affected residents continue to have access to quality healthcare despite the ongoing public health challenges. Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of the NHIA, emphasized that this intervention is part of urgent efforts to protect public health and prevent further spread of waterborne diseases.

Flooding has severely disrupted sanitation, contaminated water sources, and heightened health risks across Accra. The free registration will help victims seek timely medical treatment without the burden of financial costs, thereby encouraging early intervention and reducing the risk of disease outbreaks.

The NHIA urges all flood-affected persons to take advantage of this free registration and prioritize their health amidst the ongoing disaster. This initiative reflects the Authority’s commitment to safeguarding public health during emergencies and ensuring vulnerable populations are not denied access to essential healthcare services.
