Two people have died and several communities in Ketu North Constituency are counting losses after floods destroyed homes, submerged farmlands and washed away crops, MP Eric Edem Agbana has confirmed.
In a holding statement Monday evening, Hon. Agbana said he and the Municipal Chief Executive spent two days touring affected areas to assess damage and speak with residents.
“It is with deep sadness that I confirm the loss of two lives. Several properties have been destroyed, and many hectares of farmland have been completely submerged,” the MP said.
The floods have wiped out crops across multiple communities, threatening food security and livelihoods for hundreds of farmers.
Emergency response is underway with support from government agencies. “We are working closely with all relevant agencies and stakeholders to bring the situation under control and provide the necessary support to affected residents,” Hon. Agbana noted.
He thanked the Volta Regional Minister and NADMO for their swift intervention. NADMO officials were on the ground during the tour, beginning damage assessment and distributing initial relief items to displaced families.
A comprehensive statement with full damage details and response measures will be released after consultations with technical teams.
Residents in worst-hit areas have been urged to move to higher ground and cooperate with NADMO and assembly officials as rains continue in parts of the Volta Region.
