An Accra High Court has issued a warrant authorising the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The order, granted on Tuesday, September 30, 2026, follows an application by EOCO lawyers who told the court that officers had exhausted reasonable means of securing the legislator’s voluntary attendance.
According to the application, EOCO told the court it feared that documents relevant to its investigations could be concealed, altered or destroyed, hence the request for authority to arrest the MP and to search for and seize relevant documents.
The warrant marks a major escalation in a standoff that has been playing out since February 2026.
EOCO says it is investigating alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
The Office says it invited the MP twice in February in his capacity as Senior Partner of his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which was engaged by SIC Life to recover funds.
EOCO insists those invitations were not honoured and that its attempted arrest of the MP at the Accra High Court Complex on September 23 was one of the lawful steps to secure his attendance.
The Manhyia South MP, who is also Vice Chair of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, maintains he has never been the subject of the investigation.
In statements issued after the September 23 incident, he said the February 10 invitation was addressed to the Senior Partner of the firm to assist with inquiries concerning its client, SIC Life Savings and Loans, and that by the time the letter arrived he had become an MP.
He said he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice on February 18, and that a lawful representative of the firm subsequently cooperated with EOCO on three occasions – March 4, March 18 and April 30 – and submitted a formal written statement on April 30, 2026.
EOCO is also reported to be investigating another Minority MP in connection with the same SIC Life Savings and Loans matter.
