Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has outlined key achievements in Ghana’s security and public safety sector at the Government Accountability Series.
The Minister disclosed that the first 10,000 successful applicants to the Police, Fire, Prisons and Immigration Services are currently undergoing training, with another 10,000 expected to commence training next year from the existing pool of successful applicants.
On election-related killings, he reported that 26 suspects have so far been put before the courts. One has been discharged, while 25 are currently standing trial. A further 13 suspects are being pursued for arrest, investigation and prosecution.
He also disclosed that 3,241 migrant beggars had been repatriated to neighbouring countries by July 2026, comprising 2,281 repatriated by the end of 2025 and an additional 960 by July 2026.
Meanwhile, operations by the Narcotics Control Commission have resulted in 217 arrests and 165 prosecutions, with more than 8.5 tonnes of narcotic drugs and 45.4 million Tramadol tablets intercepted.
Authorities have also recovered 73 tainted assets, seized more than 19 kilogrammes of gold in suspected drug-money laundering cases, and restrained assets and cash worth over GH¢6.9 million and US$440,000.
