“It is with deep sorrow and grave concern that I address two unfortunate and deeply troubling incidents that have occurred in Tempane Constituency over the past 24 hours”, these are words of Lydia Lamisi Akanvaribamp, MP for Tempane and Minister of Public Sector Reforms.

The report has it that, on 2nd November, 2025, unknown gunmen attacked and shot two immigration officers at Nagani, an act that tragically claimed the life of one of our brave officers.

In a press statement issued by the MP on the disturbing situation, Madam Lydia has extended her heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the injured officer, and the entire Immigration Service, adding that “violence of this nature is reprehensible, unacceptable, and a direct affront to the rule of law. However, it is with equal, if not greater, concern that I condemn the actions of the military in Basyonde on 3rd November, 2025”.

Reports indicate that, in the early afternoon, soldiers invaded the community—far from the site of the Nagani shooting incident—and brutally assaulted innocent residents who were engaged in their normal daily activities.

Several individuals have sustained injuries, and the incident has instilled fear and insecurity in the hearts of my constituents.

The Minister categorically stated that such military action against innocent civilians is unacceptable and unjustifiable. While the state has a duty to investigate criminal acts and maintain law and order, it must not punish the innocent for the actions of a few.

“I call upon the government, the Ghana Armed Forces, and security agencies to:  1. Conduct a transparent and urgent investigation into both the shooting at Nagani and the military operation in Basyonde.  2. Ensure that those responsible for unlawful acts of violence, whether civilians or members of the security services, are held accountable under the law”, she said.

Thirdly, she calls for the restoration of trust, security, and peace in the affected communities through dialogue and lawful action.

“As your Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency, I assure your safety, dignity, and rights will always be my priority. I urge you all to remain calm and law-abiding while the authorities investigate these incidents thoroughly”.
