At the official opening of the Ghana Caribbean Week Festival, Keyon Burton was presented with a plaque of appreciation by the Youth King of OSU Ashante Blohum, Nii Nortey Nsuro Oquaye, in recognition of his commitment to cultural respect, diaspora unity, and community collaboration.

During the presentation, Nii Nortey Nsuro Oquaye stated that he was pleased with Burton’s willingness to work alongside traditional leadership in helping uphold the sovereignty, traditions, family values, and decency laws of Ghana, particularly within the historic community of OSU.

The Youth King emphasized the importance of building bridges between Ghana, the Caribbean, and the global African diaspora while ensuring that international festivals and cultural celebrations remain respectful to Ghanaian customs, the people of OSU, and traditional authority.

He further stated that unity, mutual respect, and cultural understanding are essential to maintaining strong relationships between the diaspora and local communities while protecting the integrity and values of Ghanaian society.

The opening ceremony brought together distinguished dignitaries, cultural leaders, diplomats, entertainers, and members of the African and Caribbean diaspora. Notable attendees included His Excellency Kweku Kyei “KKD”, legendary Ghanaian musician Reggie Rockstone, the Ambassador of Cuba, David Gibbs, First Secretary of the Barbados High Commission, and His Excellency Lincoln G. Downer.
