President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, describing his death as a profound loss to Dagbon and the entire nation.
Receiving the Dagbon Traditional Council at the Presidency to formally announce the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, President Mahama extended his condolences to the Royal Family, the chiefs and people of Dagbon, and all Ghanaians mourning the loss of a respected traditional leader.
The President reflected on his long-standing relationship with Ya-Na Abukari II, recalling their close collaboration during efforts to restore peace to Dagbon and describing the late King as a father figure whose wisdom and guidance transcended political and social boundaries.
President Mahama paid tribute to the late Ya-Na’s remarkable leadership, highlighting his role in transforming Dagbon from a period of conflict into a symbol of reconciliation, unity and stability.
He commended the late Overlord’s commitment to peacebuilding, including his efforts towards strengthening traditional governance, promoting dialogue and establishing a lasting framework for the peaceful future of Dagbon.
Beyond the kingdom, President Mahama described Ya-Na Abukari II as a national statesman and peacemaker whose counsel, humility and dedication to Ghana’s unity earned him respect across the country.
The President assured the chiefs and people of Dagbon that Government will work closely with the Dagbon Traditional Council to provide the necessary support and state honours as preparations are made for the final funeral rites.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Ya-Na Abukari II and for strength and comfort for the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon and the entire nation.
