The South Dayi District Assembly, led by District Chief Executive Courage Kwame Kokroko, on Friday, 31st July 2026 presented livelihood support items to 60 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) across the district.

The presentation was organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, headed by Phillip Kokroko.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Social Services Sub-Committee and Chairman of the Persons With Disability Fund, Churchill Oforikumah, urged beneficiaries to appreciate the NDC Government led by President John Dramani Mahama, the South Dayi MP and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Kwami Etse Dafeamekpor, and the DCE for the support.

He described the presentation as the first large-scale intervention of its kind for PWDs in South Dayi District.

Mr. Oforikumah noted that government funding for PWDs has increased significantly under the NDC administration. He encouraged beneficiaries to use the items to create sustainable livelihoods and eradicate poverty.

He stressed that each beneficiary can access the support only once in a lifetime, and warned that the Assembly will conduct monitoring.

“Anyone found to have sold items meant for business will be arrested and prosecuted,” he cautioned.

The Presiding Member and Assembly Member for Peki-Wudome, Wellington Elukpedzu, also advised beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously.

He described the support to 60 beneficiaries at once as “unprecedented in the history of South Dayi District” and thanked the NDC Government, the MP, and the DCE for their collaboration.

“*See these items as a seed that can grow with seriousness and commitment*,” he added.

In his remarks, Hon. Kokroko conveyed greetings from the Presidency, the Office of the MP, the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Volta Regional Minister.

He said the exercise forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to promote the socio-economic empowerment, independence, and improved livelihoods of PWDs.

Items distributed, based on identified needs and proposed economic activities, included:

– Chest freezers

– Popcorn machines

– Cassava graters

– Fufu pounding machines

– Pepper grinding machines

– Carpentry tools

– Farming inputs

– Assorted provisions and other livelihood support items

“These items are expected to help beneficiaries establish or strengthen income-generating activities,” the DCE stated.

He acknowledged Hon. Dafeamekpor for mobilizing additional support for PWDs, including from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Hon. Kokroko also thanked Assembly Members led by the Presiding Member, Assembly Management led by District Coordinating Director John Kennedy Cobbah, as well as Phillip Kokroko and Churchill Oforikumah for coordinating the programme.

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development will continue to monitor the utilization and impact of the items.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the South Dayi PWDs Association thanked the NDC Government and all leaders involved.

A press statement jointly signed by Jonas Anyadi a.k.a Abor, CCOand Emmanuel Amoah a.k.a Pastor, DCCO for South Dayi Constituency NDC said the distribution was successfully conducted and all 60 beneficiaries received their items.

The intervention is expected to enhance beneficiaries’ capacity to engage in sustainable economic activities and improve their livelihoods.

The programme was attended by Assembly Members, Assembly Staff, Assembly Management, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.
