Veteran Ghanaian statesman and former Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi, has been officially named Ghana’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Serbia. The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs as part of a broader unveiling of newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners who are set to represent Ghana across various international missions.

In a message, Mr. Ahwoi expressed gratitude and readiness for the diplomatic responsibility ahead.

“Yesterday I was officially announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs as Ghana’s Ambassador-designate to Serbia,” Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi stated.

The Minister, in announcing the appointment, said he had a fruitful encounter with the newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners as the Foreign Ministry begins earnest preparations towards the formal commencement of their diplomatic duty tours.

“Congratulations to the esteemed envoys.

Considering President Mahama’s well-considered ambassadorial appointments based on merit, competence, gravitas, track record and love for country, I have no doubt we shall make a great team to advance the President’s foreign policy imperatives in the best interest of our dear country,” the Minister stated.

Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi’s appointment has been warmly received by colleagues and members of the political and diplomatic community. “This is good news! Ambassador, congratulations to you! This couldn’t have come at a better time. Well deserved!” read one message to Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi.

Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in various high-level government positions, including as Minister for Food and Agriculture, and as Ghana’s first Interior Minister under the Fourth Republic. His statesmanship and deep understanding of international relations position him as a capable envoy to deepen Ghana-Serbia bilateral ties.

His posting comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to broaden its diplomatic presence and deepen engagement with Eastern Europe, especially in the areas of trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange.

The diplomatic community and the wider public now look forward to his official commissioning and the commencement of his service in Belgrade.
