The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched investigations into two recent political primaries in Ghana. First, they’re probing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries held on 31 January 2026 for alleged vote buying and corrupt funding.

Second, the OSP started a real-time investigation into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso East, which took place on 7 February 2026. The focus is on claims of vote buying, vote selling, and the sources of money behind these acts.

During the NDC primary, candidate Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed is accused of hiring thugs to assault an OSP officer who was investigating vote-buying allegations against him. Because of this attack, the OSP has opened a separate probe into the assault on its officer.

The OSP warns that Ghanaian law strictly forbids corrupt practices in elections, including vote buying, intimidation, threats of violence, or actual violence related to elections.
