In a heartfelt gesture, East Legon Academy presented a citation to Kofi Iddie Adams in recognition of his unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership in advancing the sports sector in Ghana. This underscored the minister’s significant contributions to grassroots football development and his role as a mentor to emerging talents.
Mr. Winston Yeboah Dansu, Director of the East Legon Academy, expressed gratitude to Hon. Adams, describing him as a beacon of good leadership and a source of inspiration for the current and future generations. “Your genuine interest in nurturing grassroots football and developing young talents is commendable. It is leaders like you who will transform our sports landscape,” he stated.
Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams highlighted the challenges facing the Ghanaian football development system, noting that it is capital-intensive and requires substantial investment. “It takes longer to see returns on investment, but I am delighted to see young, enterprising individuals like you investing in grassroots football. Your efforts are vital for discovering and nurturing our future stars,” he added.
Hon. Adams emphasized the importance of strategic collaborations. “I look forward to engaging more with visionaries like you to explore how our collective efforts can bring about the much-needed transformation in Ghanaian football. This will also help us tailor policies to effectively address sector challenges,” he said.
The sports Minister proposed the organization of a “homecoming” tournament for young Ghanaian athletes born abroad. He explained that such initiatives would foster a sense of belonging and national pride among the diaspora youth, while also promoting integration and unity.
The Minister was pleased to learn that East Legon Academy had already taken steps in this direction by hosting its maiden event last year, which featured over 12 young athletes and their coaches. “Creating platforms for our talented youth, regardless of where they are born, is crucial for the growth of Ghanaian football,” he affirmed.
This recognition and dialogue mark a step forward in Ghana’s effort to harness grassroots talent and build a sustainable sports ecosystem driven by dedicated leadership and community engagement.
