The Savannah Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), together with the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District NADMO Office, has donated relief items to residents displaced by the recent disturbances in the Gindabour community.
The urgent intervention follows a rapid assessment conducted by NADMO after the deaths of a teacher and a police officer in the area, which triggered disturbances and subsequent police operations.
According to NADMO, Gindabour, which has a population of over 4,000, has now become a virtual ghost town.
As at the time of the assessment, only the Chief and his wife were left in the community, with the entire population displaced following reported arrests and security operations.

ented under the leadership of the Savannah Regional NADMO Director, Mahama Zakaria, included bags of rice, cooking oil, rubber buckets, containers, soap, blankets, drinking cups, mosquito nets and other essential items.

NADMO – Savannah Region said the donation is aimed at providing immediate support to the affected persons as they go through this difficult period. The displaced residents are currently seeking refuge in Kulmasa and other neighbouring communities.
Receiving the items on behalf of the victims, the affected persons expressed appreciation to NADMO and government for the swift response to their immediate needs.
Hon. Mahama Zakaria expressed sadness over the unfortunate situation and the hardship it has brought upon the people of Gindabour. He assured the victims of NADMO’s continued commitment to their welfare and pledged further assistance from NADMO Headquarters and government as efforts continue to address their humanitarian needs.
NADMO says it remains committed to its mandate of supporting communities affected by disasters and emergencies and providing relief to persons in times of need.
