Construction has commenced on the 47.1 km Kumasi Outer Ring Road. The project began in January 2026 and is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
The project involves the construction of a dual asphaltic carriageway. It starts at Atia on the Accra Road (N6) and ends at Akom on the Offinso Road (N10). Once completed, the Ring Road will serve as a vital alternative transit route, connecting the southern and northern sectors of the country.

The Ring Road traverses primarily through greenfield, spanning five Municipal and District Assemblies namely Juaben Municipal, Sekyere South Municipal, Sekyere East District, Afigya Kwabre North District, Afigya Kwabre South District.
Earlier this week, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, inspected the project as part of a one-day working visit to the Ashanti Region.

Hon. Agbodza noted that the Kumasi Outer Ring Road is designed to complement the Suame Interchange project. Together, these projects will significantly decongest traffic within Kumasi by diverting long-distance transit vehicles traveling between the south and the north.
The Minister urged the contractor to ensure the project meets its 2027 completion schedule.
So far, the contractor is clearing the Right of Way (ROW) and establishing its site camp. Concurrently, community engagement with local Chiefs and Project Affected Persons (PAPs), evaluation of affected properties/structures and acquisition ROW are ongoing.

The contractor has assured the Minister that the project will be completed on schedule.
