The Parliamentary Select Committee on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs, chaired by MP Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, conducted a key oversight visit to the National Premix Fuel Secretariat and selected automated premix fuel sites in James Town, Teshie, and Nungua. The visit was part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to monitor and improve the management of premix fuel distribution across the country.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the committee to receive comprehensive updates on the operations of the Secretariat and to interact directly with fisherfolk at the landing beaches. This interaction aimed to assess the progress of ongoing reforms and to follow up on previously identified challenges within the premix fuel supply system.
During the visit, the committee was welcomed by Ebow Mensah, the Premix Fuel Administrator.
Discussions centered on critical issues affecting the sector, including fuel supply shortfalls, inadequate compliance with accountability mechanisms, and concerns over smuggling and diversion at some premix fuel sites. The committee also emphasized the importance of utilizing premix margins by Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) for community development projects.
In addressing these challenges, the committee assured fisherfolks of its commitment to implementing measures that will enhance accountability, curb diversion, and ensure reliable fuel supply. The committee pledged to maintain regular engagement with stakeholders to promote transparency and improve service delivery within the sector.
This oversight visit underscores the parliament’s dedication to ensuring efficient management of premix fuel resources, which are vital for the livelihood of many fisherfolk and the broader fishing industry in Ghana.
