The Ministry of Health in Ghana has issued a decisive directive to hospitals across the country to continue admitting emergency cases, despite recent reports indicating the “Kath” Accident and Emergency Center’s full closure and inability to admit new cases.
In a formal statement, the Ministry clarified that the decision to shut down the emergency center was made due to management challenges, contradicting previous assertions that the hospital’s emergency operations were still active. The statement emphasizes that hospitals must not turn away emergency cases as per the clear directives from the President of Ghana.

The directive comes amidst controversy surrounding the hospital’s management, which has been under scrutiny following social media reports and a Channel 1 TV news broadcast. The Ministry’s communication underscores the importance of adhering to national health policies and ensuring that emergency services remain accessible to the public.
The Ministry has summoned the hospital management to appear before the Honorable Minister of Health on June 4, 2026, to clarify the situation and address concerns over the hospital’s emergency handling procedures.
The government’s stance aims to reassure the public that emergency health services will remain operational and accessible, despite management challenges at key health facilities.
For further updates, the Ministry of Health urges the public to stay tuned and cooperate with health authorities during this period.
