The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has extended its “Stay Back, Stay Safe” campaign to Takoradi, cautioning residents against siphoning fuel from accidented fuel tankers and gathering around accident scenes.
As part of the campaign, an NPA team led by the Western Regional Manager, Sandra Aidoo, participated in in-studio radio interviews with Radio Shama and Connect FM in Takoradi to educate the public on the dangers associated with fuel siphoning.
The initiative forms part of the Authority’s efforts to curb the practice, which poses serious health and safety risks and has resulted in injuries and loss of lives in various parts of the country.
During the media engagements, Mrs Aidoo urged the public to observe the necessary safety precautions by staying away from overturned fuel tankers to prevent possible fires, explosions and other hazards.
The campaign also emphasises the need for the public to refrain from collecting spilled fuel or gathering around accident scenes to take photographs and videos, as these actions can expose them to serious danger.
The Authority remains committed to protecting lives, property and the environment through continuous public education, stakeholder collaboration and the enforcement of safety standards.
