The Volta Region mourned Ghana following a helicopter disaster that claimed the lives of national heroes. The Regional Minister, the Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State, and party leaders joined the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture to pay respects to her late father, and then laid a wreath at Jubilee House in memory of the fallen.
Here is the full statement on the Facebook wall of Dr. Gabriel Kwamigah Atokple, the Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State,
I joined the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, the NDC Volta Regional Chairman, Mawutor Agbavitor, and other regional and constituency party representatives to commiserate with the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mamagã Abla Dzifa Gomashie, on the passing of her late father.
Soon after, the delegation proceeded to the Jubilee House to lay a wreath in memory of our compatriots who lost their lives in the line of duty. Having shared personal and professional moments with some of them, I felt the weight of their sudden absence deeply.
From there, I made my way to the Mepe-Afenorto Festival in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region which, until this tragedy, was meant to be a joyous occasion. In the days leading up to the durbar, the festival’s focus shifted to a solemn commemoration in honour of our fallen heroes. What was once a traditional celebration on our cultural calendar became a heartfelt tribute to those who served the nation with dedication and paid the ultimate price.
May the souls of these heroes rest in perfect peace. And may the Lord comfort the President, their families, friends, and the entire nation in this time of loss.
