The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur (MP), received the Abidjan Legacy Programme on Exploratory Technical Mission to Ghana.
The mission, led by the Abidjan Legacy Programme Coordination Unit, is on a three-day visit to Ghana to understudy the country’s fisheries and aquaculture practices, with special focus on inland fisheries management in hydroelectric dam reservoirs.
The delegation expressed keen interest in Ghana’s innovative approaches to promoting aquaculture development as a pathway to food security, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods.
Welcoming the team, Hon. Emelia Arthur assured them of Ghana’s readiness to share experiences and best practices, stressing the importance of regional cooperation in advancing sustainable fisheries. She highlighted government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the blue economy and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to knowledge sharing with partners under the Abidjan Legacy Programme.
The engagement underscored the value of cross-country learning and technical exchange in addressing shared challenges such as declining fish stocks, aquaculture expansion, and food security. It also reinforced the strong ties between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in building a sustainable and resilient fisheries sector for West Africa.
