The Paramount Chief of the Somè Traditional Area, Torgbiga Adamah III, has outlined an ambitious development agenda for his traditional area, promising tangible progress in education, infrastructure, and community welfare.
Speaking at this year’s Somètutuza held at Agbozume, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, Torgbiga Adamah expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for initiating the Sea Defence Project at Agavedzi, Amutinu, and other affected coastal communities. He also commended the Ministry of Tourism for linking the World Tourism Day celebration with the Somètutuza, describing it as a boost to local culture and tourism.
Providing updates on last year’s commitments, the Paramount Chief announced that Ambassador Prof. Hugh Aryee has pledged to rebuild the Somè National School with a modern ICT centre and also support the revamping of the Agbozume Market. “Discussions with property owners are ongoing to pave the way for construction,” he stated.
Torgbiga Adamah further disclosed that internal road projects will commence next year in partnership with the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, while steps are being taken to resolve water supply challenges in Agbozume and surrounding communities.
Torgbiga revealed that the Somè Traditional Council will, this academic year, offer scholarships to three brilliant but needy students pursuing science-related courses at the university level, with sponsorship from Seven Seas Salt Company.
Proceeds from this year’s festival, he added, will be invested in the construction of an administrative block for the Traditional Council to enhance its operations.
Torgbiga Adamah III reaffirmed the unity of Somè chiefs, emphasizing that “the refusal of any individual chief to abide by collectively established rules does not mean division among the traditional leadership.” He urged calm in coastal and Ʋego areas and encouraged citizens to channel grievances through the Council for peaceful resolution.
The festival drew a large crowd of citizens, dignitaries, and well-wishers, marking yet another milestone in Somè’s quest for unity and development.
