The Energy Commission has issued a directive that all Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations and Battery Swap Systems in Ghana must obtain prior approval before installation and operation.
This regulatory measure aims to ensure that all EV charging and battery swap installations meet national safety, technical, and operational standards.
According to the Energy Commission Act, 1997 (Act 541), the Commission is mandated to regulate and manage the development and utilization of energy resources in Ghana, including electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
The Commission advises individuals, companies, and organizations to seek guidance and approval before undertaking any EV charging infrastructure project to avoid regulatory sanctions.
Failure to comply with this directive may attract sanctions as prescribed by law.
The public is encouraged to take note of this directive to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient deployment of EV charging and battery swap services in Ghana.
