President John Dramani Mahama has referred a total of 10 petitions to the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, seeking the removal of key public officials.
The petitions include seven against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and her two deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, as well as three against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
The petitions against the EC Leadership cite alleged misconduct, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence, which the petitioners claim have undermined public confidence in the EC and threaten Ghana’s electoral process.
The petitions against Agyebeng accuse him of incompetence and abuse of office.
The referrals follow Article 70(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the appointment and removal procedures for heads of constitutional bodies.
The Chief Justice will now determine whether a prima facie case exists, and if so, a committee will be set up to investigate the allegations.
