Her Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called for a paradigm shift in the relationship between the Presidency and sector ministries, advocating for a spirit of partnership over mere supervision. Speaking during a historic working visit to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) on Wednesday January 14, 2026, the Vice President emphasized that the success of the government’s “Reset Agenda” depends on the strength of its systems rather than individual accolades.
Accompanied by the Chief of Staff and other high-ranking officials, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that she was at the Ministry to acquaint herself with the progress of transformative policies, particularly the 24-Hour Economy Policy.
“This work is not merely for the President’s personal success, but for the success of the entire nation,” the Vice President stated. She pledged her unwavering support to the Ministry, noting that her office is ready to collaborate closely to surmount the challenges hindering decentralization.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further cautioned against the mismanagement of public funds, urging the Ministry and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to use available resources, no matter the scale to deliver tangible impact for the Ghanaian people. Her visit marks the first time a sitting Vice President has visited the Ministry to engage directly on operational developments, signaling a new era of hands-on, collaborative governance under the Mahama administration.
