The Board of Directors of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) led by the Board Chairman, James Agalga (MP) has paid a working visit to the Hajj Village Construction site to inspect the progress of work.
Addressing the Board of Directors during the visit, Director of Projects, Engineering and Construction, Reverend Solomon Adjaso Abijah, said the multipurpose facility would comprise a residential building, terminal building, mosque, modern tennis court, hajj offices among others.
Rev. Abijah also indicated that the facility would also feature an enhanced commercial area to host shops, restaurants, event center, recreational spaces all designed to generate additional revenue stream (non โ aeronautical) for GACL.
According to the Director of Projects, the facility, which is 55 percent complete and expected to be completed by the end of 2026, would provide a more dignified environment for pilgrims before they depart for Saudi Arabia.
The Board Chairman of GACL, Hon. James Agalga, on his part commended the contractors for the progress of work, noting that this formed part of the Presidentโs vision of providing a safe and conducive environment to facilitate the travel of pilgrims to Mecca.
Hon. Agalga assured that the Board was committed to working closely with contractors to ensure the Hajj Village became operational by the end of the year.
The Board subsequently inspected work on the runway overlay and head office building being constructed by Amandi Holdings at KIA.
Addressing the media, Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare indicated that the runway at KIA had not undergone any major works for about 30 years, hence the rehabilitation. According to Mrs. Opare, the work involved expanding the width of the runway from 60meters to 75 meters, runway overlay and installation of LED Approach Guidance Lighting (AGL) system.
During the tour of the GACL Head office building site, contractors assured the Board that the project will be completed in July 2027.
