President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday assented to the groundbreaking 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, during a brief ceremony prior to the 13th cabinet meeting. The signing marks a pivotal step in Ghana’s push to enhance productivity, attract investment, and create jobs through extended operating hours.

In his remarks following the signing, President Mahama emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating, “Cabinet colleagues, I just appended my signature to give assent to the 24-hour Authority Bill. This Bill, which Ghanaians have been waiting for, was one of our flagship strategies for economic transformation.”

He explained that the process of finalizing the bill took time due to the government’s commitment to thorough due diligence, ensuring that the legislation would have the proper legal backing to support the new policy initiative. “Now we must move from strategy to implementation. The business sector is waiting, Ghanaian investors are waiting, foreign investors are waiting,” the President added.

The President highlighted the critical role the bill will play in boosting economic activity, noting, “They want to see the package of incentives that we can afford, so that they can invest more, expand productivity, and also create more employment for our young people. It’s my pleasure to assent to this Bill today.”

The legislation establishes the 24-Hour Economy Authority, a central coordinating body tasked with implementing the policy, aligning efforts between the public and private sectors, and addressing infrastructure and regulatory challenges. This move aims to foster a more dynamic and competitive economic environment, positioning Ghana as a hub for round-the-clock business activity.
