The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), held the maiden meeting of the Agribusiness Technical Working Group (TWG) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and drive the growth of Ghana’s agribusiness sector under the Free Zones Programme on Thursday, 7th May 2026.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Lateef Apau

The meeting brought together key stakeholders and industry players to deliberate on practical strategies aimed at positioning Ghana as a competitive hub for agribusiness and agro-processing within the sub-region.

Delivering remarks at the meeting, the Chairperson of the Technical Working Group and Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Lateef Apau Wiredu, underscored the importance of clarity of purpose, clearly defined objectives, and effective institutional coordination in guiding the work of the group and ensuring the successful implementation of agribusiness initiatives and policies.

The Director of Agribusiness, Dr. Abdul-Wahab Alhassan, highlighted key priority areas for the Technical Working Group, including the development of agro-industrial parks, strengthening agricultural value chains, enhancing policy support frameworks, and promoting strategic investment opportunities within the sector.
Members of the Technical Working Group expressed their support for the direction outlined by the Chairperson and agreed on the need for a coordinated and results-oriented approach to advancing the sector.

They further reaffirmed their commitment to fostering partnerships, improving value addition, and creating sustainable opportunities for agribusiness growth and export development.

As part of the meeting, a seven-member committee was inaugurated to steer the activities of the Technical Working Group. The committee comprises representatives from the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization, GIZ, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MOTAI), the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, and the Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness, marking an important step towards a more coordinated approach to agribusiness development in Ghana.
