The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama has said Ghana’s economy continues to demonstrate resilience, recording real GDP growth of 6.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, driven mainly by the services and industry sectors.

He also announced that headline inflation eased further to 4.6 per cent in July 2026, down from 5.3 per cent in June, supported by slower food inflation and relative exchange rate stability.

Dr. Asiama made this known when he met with Heads of Banks at Bank Square on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.

Discussions at the meeting also focused on how banks can leverage digital and mobile platforms to make it easier for Ghanaians in the diaspora to save and invest in Ghana, as part of efforts to support the development of a national remittance strategy.

The Governor urged banks to develop dedicated investment products for the diaspora to enable remittances to move beyond basic transfers into savings, investments, and other productive economic activities.

Dr. Asiama further stressed that a resilient banking sector must do more than preserve stability; it must actively translate that stability into opportunities across the economy.
