The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has recalled the House from recess to sit for one week to consider urgent parliamentary business.
In a statement dated Tuesday, 12th August 2026, the Speaker said the recall is in exercise of the power conferred on him by Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
According to the directive, Parliament will sit from 12 noon on Monday, 24th August 2026 to Friday, 28th August 2026 at Parliament House, Accra.
“IN EXERCISE OF THE POWER CONFERRED ON THE SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT BY ORDER 58(4) OF THE STANDING ORDERS OF THE PARLIAMENT OF GHANA, I, ALBAN SUMANA KINGSFORD BAGBIN, THE SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT, DO HEREBY DIRECT THAT PARLIAMENT SHALL, NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY, BE RECALLED FROM RECESS TO SIT… TO CONSIDER URGENT PARLIAMENTARY BUSINESS,” the letter stated.
The Speaker did not specify the exact matters to be considered, but described them as “urgent parliamentary business.”
The recall comes ahead of the resumption of the regular parliamentary calendar.
