National security is not the private fiefdom of an entrenched cartel. It is the sacred shield of the Republic. Yet, behind the polished facade of statecraft, a quiet mutiny is underway at the heart of our security apparatus, mocking the very mandate given by the sovereign will of the people.
When President John Dramani Mahama announced the long-overdue reorganisation of National Security, it was greeted as a necessary crusade to cleanse the temple of state intelligence. But a mandate on paper is nothing without the iron will to enforce it on the ground. Today, the National Security Co-ordinator, Osman Razak, is actively subverting that presidential decree, engineering a calculated realignment to preserve the very status quo the administration was elected to dismantle.
This is not mere administrative friction. It is institutional subversion.
Intelligence gathered from the inner sanctums of power reveals a systematic sabotage of energy and intent. At a clandestine gathering at the Yellow House in Roman Ridge on Monday, 17th August 2026, the blueprint for defiance was laid bare. Here, loyalty to a clique superseded allegiance to the state.
Consider the curious case of Osman Alhassan, the erstwhile Director of Investigations and biological brother to the Co-ordinator. When the presidency ordered his return to the Ghana Police Service, it was supposed to sever a tentacle of nepotism. Instead, the Co-ordinator views this rightful reallocation as a personal affront. Behind closed doors, desperate maneuvers are afoot to parachute Osman Alhassan into the Tema Region as 2IC, shielding a personal fortune and an intimate web of influence from public scrutiny.
When the state appointed DCOP Retired Peter Ndekugri to restore professional integrity to the investigative office, the transition was met with deliberate obstruction. In a breach of protocol, the outgoing director bypassed the incoming authority entirely, handing over instead to the Secretariat Administrator, Emmanuel Opeku. Why? Because accountability is an existential threat to an empire built on impunity.
The hypocrisy runs deeper still. The Co-ordinator publicly questions the creation of a special investigations role, feigning confusion over its scope. Yet, this is the same architect who birthed the opaque Critical Incidences of National Interest (CINI) team specifically to place his blood brother at the apex of intelligence gathering. When a title serves the cartel, it is sanctified; when it serves the republic through independent oversight, it is ridiculed.
The institutional sabotage does not stop at investigations. The newly appointed Director in Charge of Human Security has been quietly neutralized, relegated to a hollow supervisory shell while Owusu Ansah, popularly known as Okoro, a director dismissed by presidential fiat, was surreptitiously retained as an assistant to shadow and undermine his nominal superior. Meanwhile, the newly appointed Deputy Co-ordinator of Operations is being strategically quarantined, exiled to the former First Lady’s office to keep him safely away from the levers of operational command.
Let us speak plainly: Osman Razak is leveraging proximity and inherited influence to render the presidency toothless. He calculates that personal association can shield him from accountability, daring the administration to touch the untouchable.
This administration was not elected to coddle cartels or sanctify internal sabotage. The blood, sweat, and toil of millions who campaigned for change did not culminate in the recycling of patronage. If the second coming of President Mahama permits the festering of these deep-seated scandals, the government invites its own political peril. A house divided against the public interest cannot stand.
The state must act, and it must act now. An independent, comprehensive judicial investigation into the National Security Secretariat is no longer an option; it is an urgent constitutional imperative. The cartels must be dismantled, the usurpers reined in, and the integrity of our national security restored. The republic belongs to the people, not to the managers of the status quo.
