The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an emergency meeting to resolve the ongoing strike action.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry on 11th October 2026.
The statement, signed by Press Secretary to the Minister, Hashmin Mohammed, said the meeting is to “engage in constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the ongoing strike action.”
“Government remains committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement,” the statement noted.
The Ministry also called on all parties to approach the meeting “in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, mindful of the impact of the ongoing industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest.”
Government further urged the leadership of GAUA to seize the opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders towards an early resolution of the impasse.
“Government remains hopeful that the meeting will yield a positive outcome and facilitate a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across affected tertiary institutions,” the statement concluded.
GAUA’s nationwide strike has disrupted administrative services in public universities over unresolved conditions of service and welfare demands.
