The Minister for Roads and Highways has descoped a total of 50 kilometres from two contractors working on the Wenchi-Sawla road over delays and unsatisfactory performance.
The Minister, Kwame Agbodza said following inspection of selected road projects in the Bono and Savannah Regions, he has directed the Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Highway Authority to take steps to descope 25 kilometres each from the two contractors.
“We cannot continue to keep critical road projects in the hands of contractors who are unable to deliver. The people deserve roads, not excuses,” the Minister stated.
Mr. Agbodza disclosed that the affected sections will be reassigned to new and capable contractors who will be required to get onto site and get the work done immediately.
“Our approach is simple: perform and deliver, or make way for those who can. We are not interested in excuses. We are interested in results,” he stressed.
“The roads must be built. The work must be done. And we will ensure it gets done,” he added.
The Wenchi-Sawla road is a critical link between the Bono and Savannah Regions and forms part of government’s agenda to improve road connectivity and boost economic activities.
