The Embassy of Spain in Ghana has engaged the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection on scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian women under the 2026-2027 Learn Africa Programme.
The initiative, led by the Women for Africa Foundation, is designed to support African women professionals to pursue postgraduate studies in Spanish universities, with a focus on strengthening capacity and promoting women’s leadership across the continent.
During the engagement, the Ambassador of Spain to Ghana, Angel Lossada, explained that the programme offers 100 scholarships across Africa, covering master’s degrees, doctoral programmes, research and other specialised postgraduate courses. He further emphasised that the programme targets women who have already completed their tertiary education and are seeking to advance their academic and professional development, contributing to improved human capital and development outcomes in their home countries.
Responding to the presentation, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey expressed appreciation for the initiative and the opportunity extended to Ghana. She noted that the programme aligns with the Ministry’s mandate to empower women through education and capacity building and assured that the Ministry would work to ensure that as many eligible and qualified persons, particularly professionals and those within tertiary institutions, including individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds take advantage of the opportunity.
The Learn Africa Programme serves as an important platform for advancing academic excellence, professional growth and international collaboration, while promoting women’s empowerment across Africa.
