Member of the Ways and Means Committee and Member of Parliament for Sawla/Tuna/Kalba, Andrew Dari Chiwitey, has highlighted the vital role played by his committee within Parliament.
He explained that the committee also reviews budget allocations to ensure proper utilization of public funds. “Our committee plays a key oversight role, ensuring transparency and accountability in how funds are managed and spent,” MP Chiwitey stated.

Following the recent revision of the Standing Orders, Parliament established the Ways and Means Committee to oversee and scrutinize the work plans of other parliamentary committees and the MP emphasizing that the Ways and Means Committee is essential in supervising and scrutinizing the work plans of other Parliamentary Committees.
Speaking to fmnewsonline of the significance of the Committee MP underscored the importance of the committee’s work, noting that it contributes significantly to the effective functioning of Parliament by safeguarding public resources and promoting good governance. As a result, the Ways and Means Committee has become one of the most important committees in Parliament today, especially in promoting judicial use of public funds and maintaining fiscal discipline.

MP Chiwitey called on fellow parliamentarians to continue supporting the committee’s efforts to enhance transparency and uphold the public’s trust in government financial management.
The Committee is currently holding meetings in Parliament with leadership with various committees to interrogate their activities for the year under review.
