The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that it disbursed more than GHC 157 million in claims to healthcare service providers across the country for the month of April 2026. This substantial payment underscores the NHIA’s commitment to ensuring continuous and reliable healthcare delivery for all Ghanaians.

According to a statement from the Authority’s Claims Directorate, the payments were made in two installments: GHC 43.7 million on April 14 and GHC 113.6 million on April 30. The disbursements covered outstanding claims dating back to 2019, which had accumulated due to various challenges, including some isolated issues and vetted claims through March 2026.

The NHIA emphasized that settling these claims promptly is part of its broader goal to maintain uninterrupted healthcare services for members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Private healthcare facilities received the largest share of the payments, followed by public and mission facilities, ensuring that a wide network of providers can continue delivering essential services.

In terms of distribution, high-volume healthcare facilities, including clinics and health centers, accounted for 64% of the claims. Hospitals and specialized facilities made up 23% and 4%, respectively, reflecting the diverse range of providers involved in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The NHIA reiterated its commitment to clearing outstanding arrears and strengthening the financial capacity of health facilities nationwide. This initiative aims to improve the overall quality and accessibility of healthcare services across Ghana.

The announcement was issued by the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NHIA, highlighting the Authority’s dedication to transparency and efficient management of health insurance claims to support Ghana’s healthcare system.
