The Volta Regional office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has held its 2025 Annual Performance Review Meeting and Awards Ceremony under the theme “Universal Health Coverage Achieved: Celebrating Excellence, Expanding Access to Quality Healthcare.”
The event brought together staff from district and regional offices, as well as stakeholders across the health sector.
In her address, the Regional Director Ms. Susan Chobbah paid glowing tribute to past regional directors whose leadership laid a strong foundation for the current administration. She noted that this foundation enabled the region to exceed its target for 2025, placing Volta Region fourth nationwide.
Ms. Chobbah announced that the region registered 1,798,099 people out of a projected population of 1,742,806, representing 103.2 percent coverage; the highest since the inception of the scheme in the region.
She urged participants to use the review meeting to consolidate gains and identify innovative ways to expand access to quality healthcare across all communities.
She also expressed profound gratitude to NHIA Executive Management, led by Dr.Victor Asare Bampoe, for their commitment to implementing the Free Primary Healthcare Policy and other interventions aimed at improving access to healthcare.
The occasion also recognized staff and districts for their dedication and support. NHIA-branded items, wall clocks, citations, and plaques were presented to deserving winners.
The chairman of the event, Mr. Divine Kporha, applauded the region’s outstanding achievement and emphasized that the journey towards Universal Health Coverage required teamwork and commitment, especially to ensure care for vulnerable populations. He congratulated all award winners and acknowledged their collective sacrifices behind the success story.
Mr. Raymond Avinu, Director of Administration at NHIA Head Office, commended the Volta Region for its hard work and dedication, expressing optimism that the region could rise to the top position in the coming years.
He assured staff that interventions such as the Mahama Care initiative and other human‑centred policies have been introduced to enhance staff welfare and benefit Ghanaians nationwide.
He further disclosed that Executive Management is planning to procure additional logistics to support staff and strengthen service delivery.
Mr. Sebastian Alagpulinsa, Director of Membership and Regional Operations, praised the region’s exceptional membership drive and congratulated the Regional Director for her outstanding performance.
A message delivered for him by the Deputy Director of the Regional Coordinating Council , the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, congratulated NHIA Volta Region for its impressive performance and lauded Executive Management for providing the necessary support to strengthen service delivery.
Representing the Ghana Health Service,  Makafui Dzakpasu, the Deputy Regional Director of Health in charge of Clinical Care, encouraged participants to regularly check their health vitals and announced plans to establish free screening centres in public places, including markets.
