The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Ghana, H.E. Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, has paid a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Ambassador extended an invitation to the Speaker and Members of Parliament to attend the 3rd Russian- African Summit, highlighting its vast opportunities for Africa in bilateral trade, development cooperation, and the sharing of new technologies. He noted that the participation of Parliament would add a valuable new dimension to the summit’s deliberations.
Discussions also touched on key areas of cooperation, including a significant inter-governmental agreement signed in 2026 between Ghana and Russia for military-technical cooperation. The Ambassador emphasized that the agreement requires parliamentary ratification to take effect, underscoring the critical role of Parliament in actualizing bilateral commitments.
Additionally, the Russian-Parliament Friendship Association was discussed, with both sides expressing optimism that the composition of the new Parliament would further strengthen the friendship association and deepen inter-parliamentary ties.
In his remarks, the Rt Hon Speaker recounted his previous visits to Russia over the years and the productive engagements held with his counterpart parliament.
He highlighted his role as part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Geo-Political Team taskforce mediating the Russia-Ukraine war, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to global peace and diplomacy.
The Rt Hon Speaker called for the relationship between the Parliament and the Russian Embassy to be strengthened and deepened, reaffirming the shared commitment to mutual prosperity and continued collaboration between the two nations.
