A grassroots survey conducted by committed NDC supporters shows overwhelming backing for Universal Membership Suffrage over the current Delegate Collegiate Vote system, with 93% of respondents saying the reform would help reduce vote-buying and corruption in the party.
The survey, presented to the NDC’s General Secretary and National Executive Committee, found that 82.86% of respondents believe Universal Membership Suffrage would improve democratic outcomes at all levels of the party.
It also revealed deep concerns about the existing delegate system, with 84.29% stating it encourages vote-buying and 90.48% describing it as “very important” for the party to address flaws in the system.
The poll was conducted online across several active NDC WhatsApp platforms without direct interaction between respondents and the research team.
According to the organizers, AI was used for statistical analysis “to eliminate human elements and biases as much as possible.”
Organizers say the results reflect “the desire and commitment of the entire Party membership, with a negligible statistical margin of error.”
They added that the raw online data is available for formal verification and that the team is ready to assist the party in validating the findings.
In a notable finding,
83.81% of respondents said they would support the party with resources to ensure the implementation, transparency, and sustainability of Universal Membership Suffrage if adopted.
The team behind the survey said the initiative is intended to push for “credible and accountable leadership” within the NDC and to strengthen democracy in Ghana as a whole.
“We respectfully pray your indulgence to consider this survey as a step toward realizing credible and accountable leadership for the Party,” the statement read.
The debate between Universal Membership Suffrage and the Delegate System has been a recurring one within the NDC, with advocates arguing that opening voting to all registered members would curb monetization of internal elections.
Opponents have raised concerns about logistics and party structure.
The NDC has not officially commented on the survey findings.
The release was signed by Team Leader, Mayor Agbleze, who described the team as “steadfast in our commitment to the success of the Party.”
