Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has pledged to establish an educational support fund, to be named the “Sunset Fund,” to provide opportunities for underprivileged children. He made the announcement during a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the long-standing relationship between Parliament and the revered Islamic leader while recognising his unwavering contribution to promoting peace, national unity and social cohesion. The Speaker expressed gratitude to the Chief Imam for his continuous prayers and support, describing his commitment to peace and harmony as an inspiration to religious communities across the world.

In response, the National Chief Imam commended Speaker Bagbin for his leadership of Parliament despite the challenges that have characterised the House and praised him for fulfilling his commitment to facilitate the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. He offered prayers for the Speaker and the nation, urging continued unity and peaceful coexistence.

The Clerk to Parliament and the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Sulemana Yusif, also paid tribute to the Chief Imam, describing him as a priceless national asset whose impartial leadership, prayers and unwavering dedication to Ghana’s peace and stability continue to inspire confidence and foster national development.
