The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kofi Adams, officially inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 15th Africa Arm Wrestling Championship, dubbed “Accra 2026,” at the Ministry’s conference room.

During the ceremony, he emphasized the importance of the committee’s role and tasked them with ensuring the successful hosting of the event.

In his keynote address, Mr. Adams highlighted Ghana’s dedication to promoting sports excellence and fostering unity across the continent. He stated, “This championship is more than just about strength and competition; it’s about bringing nations together and celebrating our diversity through sport. Every sport deserves a pathway to success, and every athlete deserves recognition.

He reflected on the growth of arm wrestling in Ghana, adding, “Today, we see how far the sport has come, and I am proud to be part of an initiative that emphasizes structure and progress.”

Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation, expressed confidence in Accra’s ability to host a world-class event. “We aim to showcase Africa’s talent and hospitality. The dedicated professionals and sports enthusiasts on the local organizing committee will work tirelessly to deliver an event that will be remembered for years to come,” he stated.

Following their selection for their expertise and passion for sports, the committee members took oaths of service, committing themselves to the seamless planning, organization, and execution of the championship.

Maame Afua Houageto, the newly appointed Chairperson and representative of the Ghana Tourism Authority, shared her enthusiasm. “We are honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. Our focus will be on detailed planning, engaging the community, and promoting African strength and resilience through arm wrestling,” she said.

The seven-member committee includes:

– Mrs. Maame Afua Houageto (Ghana Tourism Authority) – Chairperson

– Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum (Kofikrom Pharmacy Ltd) – Vice Chairperson

– Mr. Andre Ackah (Advertisers Association of Ghana)

This team is set to work diligently to ensure the success of Africa’s premier arm-wrestling event in Accra in 2026.
