President John Dramani Mahama has assented to 10 Bills passed by Parliament, with the Tribunals Bill, 2026 as a major highlight of the legislative package.
The new Tribunals Act, 2026 gives effect to Article 142 of the Constitution for the establishment of Regional Tribunals.
Under the law, the Chief Justice is empowered to establish tribunals to deal with specified categories of offences to reduce case backlogs, address delays in the court system, and enhance access to justice.
The law, which was passed on July 17 after the Minority staged a walkout describing it as a “parallel system”, was among the most contentious of the second meeting of the Ninth Parliament.
The other nine laws signed by the President at a ceremony on August 26 are:

2. Community Service Bill, 2026
3. Maritime and Related Offences Bill, 2026
4. National Defence University Bill, 2026
5. Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026
6. Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Bill, 2026
7. Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026
8. Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026
9. Excise Bill, 2026
According to the Presidency, the package is aimed at plugging revenue leakages, improving efficiency and delivering on key government commitments, with the tax and customs laws consolidating amendments into comprehensive frameworks.
All ten Bills were passed during the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament which ended on July 31, 2026, and have now become law following presidential assent.
