The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, recently conducted an inspection of the Achimota Waste Transfer Station, popularly known as Zoom Pak, in Accra. During the visit, he pledged to fully support the revitalization of the facility to enhance waste management and sanitation efforts in Greater Accra.

Minister Ibrahim expressed gratitude to Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Director of Jospong Group of Companies, for his continued support, which was initially facilitated by President John Mahama in 2015 through a partnership with the Turkish Government. This collaboration led to the establishment of Zoom Pack, serving as a critical point for waste collection in the region.

Currently, approximately 3,000 tricycles are operating at the station, playing a significant role in reducing flooding and improving sanitation in Accra. However, the minister noted that waste processing at the facility has stalled or is underperforming due to a lack of financial commitment from previous administrations.
He emphasized the need for renewed investment and support to ensure the station functions optimally, thereby addressing sanitation challenges and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment in the region. The government’s commitment to strengthening waste management infrastructure underscores its dedication to sustainable sanitation solutions for Greater Accra.
