Parts of Greater Accra are under water this morning following heavy downpours that began yesterday, bringing traffic to a standstill and leaving thousands of workers stranded at home.
The continuous rain has submerged major road corridors and inner-city areas, with several hotspots reporting severe flooding.
Aside from multiple inner-city roads, authorities and residents report extensive flooding at: Kasoa Toll Booth: Completely flooded, cutting off a key entry point into Accra from the Central Region.
Adabraka and Asylum Down: Streets inundated, with water entering homes and shops.
Kwame Nkrunah Interchange: One of Accra’s busiest commercial hubs, flooded and largely impassable.
Pokuase Main Road: Submerged, disrupting traffic toward the north.
Abeka Junction: Also reported under floodwaters.
Commuters and vehicles affected:
The floods have left thousands of workers stuck at home as roads became unsafe for travel.
Motorists were also hit hard, with many saloon cars and other small vehicles trapped in rising water along affected stretches.
Emergency and municipal authorities are yet to issue a full damage assessment or traffic advisory.
Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to exercise caution.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency had forecast continued rains across the southern sector, and NADMO officials are monitoring the situation.
We’ll update as more details come in from NADMO and city authorities.
