The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, has undertaken a working visit to an aquaculture facility established by the Kwahu Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture Development in the Kwahu West Municipality.
The visit, which followed an earlier engagement with Chiefs of the community, aimed to strengthen collaboration with the Foundation and support its contribution to aquaculture as a driver of job creation and sustainable food supply.
Emelia Arthur paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive, Tamimu Halidu, before touring the Family and Friends Fisheries Limited in Nkawkaw, a facility developed by the Foundation.
The Minister was shown how natural water harnessed from the Kwahu mountains is used for tilapia and catfish farming, providing a rich source of oxygenated water for high-quality fish production.

Addressing Chiefs and stakeholders, the Minister commended the initiative, describing it as a model that could open more opportunities for entrepreneurs in aquaculture.
She emphasized her commitment to building partnerships between the Ministry and the Foundation to create decent jobs and equip the youth with practical skills in modern fish farming.
She further underscored the importance of replicating such facilities in other communities and establishing fish processing markets to make fish trading more accessible to all stakeholders in the value chain.
As part of the visit, Hon. Emelia Arthur also engaged students from the Agriculture Department of Mpraeso Senior High School, pledging to provide fingerlings to support aquaculture training.
Nkawkaw Senior High School will also benefit from fingerlings and other essential resources to strengthen practical learning in aquaculture.
The Minister’s visit reaffirmed government’s commitment to leveraging aquaculture for food security, employment creation, and community development.
