The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, led a high-level team on an inspection visit to the Authority’s newly designated Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Afienya on Wednesday, 15th April 2026,
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to operationalise the Afienya EPZ, which spans approximately 1,238 acres, and to position it as a premier destination for investment under Ghana’s Free Zones Programme. The development comes at a time of growing investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy, driven by prudent economic management and a stable investment climate.
As a result, the Authority is witnessing a steady increase in interest from both local and international investors seeking to establish operations in the country.
In response to this rising demand, the Afienya EPZ is being strategically developed in close proximity to the Tema Port to provide additional serviced industrial land and strengthen Ghana’s export-led industrialisation agenda.
Notably, the Zone is envisioned as Ghana’s first Plug-and-Play export processing facility, equipped with ready-to-use infrastructure that will enable investors to commence operations within significantly shorter timelines.
This innovative approach is expected to further boost investor confidence, accelerate job creation, and enhance export growth. Ultimately, the Afienya EPZ is poised to play a pivotal role in expanding Ghana’s export-oriented industrial base and reinforcing the country’s position as a competitive hub for industrial investment.
The CEO was accompanied by the Deputy CEO of Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu; Director of Corporate Affairs, PR & Aftercare, Dr. Patience Acorlor; Director of Administration, Hajia Hanatu Abubakar; Director of Monitoring, Mrs. Joyce Amamps; Director of Tema, Mr. Edward Adu Ntiamoah; Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Bilal Muazu Sulemana; Head of Compliance, Mr. Michael Larbi; Head of Estate and Zones, Mr. Benjamin Obeng; and other officers of the Authority.
