Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism joined stakeholders at the 2026 MSME Day Celebration in Accra, with a strong push for digitalization and affordable financing for small businesses.
The event, organised by the Ghana Enterprises Agency, GEA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry was under the theme:” Human-Centered Entrepreneurship in an AI-Driven Future: Economic Empowerment for the Next Generation of MSMEs.
Chairman of the Committee, Alexander Hottordze on behalf of his colleagues members reaffirmed the sector’s weight.
MSMEs account for over 90% of registered businesses, provide about 80% of employment, and contribute nearly 70% of Ghana’s GDP.
“It was encouraging to witness the launch of the MSME Digital Gateway,” Hottordze noted, describing MSMEs as “the backbone of our nation’s economic growth.”
Digital Gateway + GH¢6bn financing push:
Key highlights from the event are MSME Digital Gateway launched – to connect small businesses to markets, finance, training, and AI tools under a human-centered model.
GH¢6 billion financing target by 2027– Government committed to unlocking affordable credit to support at least 100,000 MSMEs, with a deliberate focus on women- and youth-led enterprises.
The move signals Government’s intent to equip the next generation of MSMEs to leverage AI for productivity, market access, and competitiveness, while keeping entrepreneurship inclusive.
