The Energy Commission of Ghana held its 24th Electrical Wiring Certification and Award Ceremony at its Head Office in Accra under the theme “Training Today’s Youth, Certifying Tomorrow’s Electrical Experts.”
The event brought together stakeholders, industry leaders, and newly certified professionals to celebrate Ghana’s continued commitment to electrical safety and youth empowerment.
Board Chairman Professor John Gartchie Gatsi urged graduates to combine technical skills with strong communication abilities, stressing that doing so could position Ghana to export skilled labour beyond its borders.

Acting Executive Secretary Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie called for greater female participation in the electrical field and announced plans to seek sponsorship for certified female electricians. She also highlighted a major digital milestone, describing the Commission’s ICCAP platform as now “the backbone of a fully connected electrical safety ecosystem.”
Guest Speaker and Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, directed the National Youth Authority to partner with the Commission to expand electrical training under the National Apprenticeship Programme. The initiative will offer trainees stipends, startup kits upon completion, and formal certification.

Since its inception, the Commission has trained and certified 19,633 electrical wiring professionals across Ghana, with 1,198 candidates currently awaiting certification. At the ceremony, Odoom Daniel was named Overall Best Candidate and Oppong Afua Gyapomaa was recognised as Overall Best Female Candidate.
