President John Dramani Mahama has granted approval for the recruitment of an additional 1,200 personnel for the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to strengthen its capacity to fight drug trafficking.
The Majority Caucus led by James Agalga in Parliament at news conference in Parliament said the move is aimed at significantly boosting NACOC’s institutional capacity and operational effectiveness.
According to him the recruitment will complement the 495 officers trained and commissioned by the Commission in 2025 as part of efforts to address staffing gaps and expand its operational footprint across the country.
The Majority Leader and MP for Builsa North, Lawyer Agalga, said the additional recruitment will enable NACOC to meet the demands of its expanding network of district commands and intensify surveillance at vulnerable entry points.
“This government has more than doubled NACOC’s staff, training 495 new officers in 2025 alone, the largest number of officers to ever graduate from NACOC. This isn’t just a number. It’s the difference between an agency that can respond and an agency that can be there in communities, at borders, along the path traffickers go to exploit. This government has taken it a step further,” he said.
He added that the presidential approval is strategically intended to address the Commission’s longstanding staffing deficit and provide the manpower needed to man its district commands nationwide.
“His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s government has approved the recruitment of another 1200 staff for NACOC, a bold and consistent move that will go a long way to fill the deficit in the Commission’s staffing,” Hon. Agalga stated.
