President John Dramani Mahama, as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Northern Region, has inspected newly acquired transformers at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) yard in Tamale, reaffirming government’s commitment to stabilising power supply across the country.
He explained that many existing transformers have become overstretched due to increased demand over the years, noting that infrastructure installed decades ago is now serving significantly larger populations, leading to instability in supply.

President Mahama expressed optimism about the future of Ghana’s energy sector, highlighting the goal of localising transformer production to strengthen capacity and ensure long-term sustainability, while commending NEDCo and ECG for their ongoing efforts.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, also indicated that government is currently at the deployment stage of high-capacity transformers, with plans to install more units across the Northern operational area to reduce overloading and improve system stability.

He revealed that while about 400 transformers were initially requested for the region, government is providing 500 to significantly enhance power distribution and reliability, appealing to the public for patience as the installations continue.

The intervention forms part of broader measures under the #ResettingGhana agenda to modernise energy infrastructure and deliver stable, efficient power supply nationwide.
