The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has officially inaugurated the Ministry’s five-member Audit Committee, describing its establishment as a significant step towards strengthening accountability, financial oversight, and good governance within the Ministry.
In his remarks, Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo commended the collaborative efforts that led to the successful inauguration of the Committee despite competing demands on his schedule. He noted that a strong audit system remains critical to ensuring efficient use of public resources and strengthening public confidence in state institutions.
“I believe this is a very important undertaking in service to Mother Ghana. If all MDAs demonstrate the same level of commitment, together we can build a stronger audit regime that promotes accountability, strengthens governance, and ensures the efficient use of public resources,” he remarked.
Prior to the inauguration, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Support Services at the Internal Audit Agency, Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy to the Committee members in accordance with the provisions of the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Accra, forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and prudent financial management in the discharge of its mandate.
The five-member Audit Committee comprises Mr. Samuel Gyekye Mensah and Mrs. Pamela Osei Agyekum, both representing the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mrs. Deborah Korkor Cobbina representing Institute of Chartered Acccountants Ghana and Mrs. Gifty Joyce Bosomprah, Director General Administration, and Mr. Shadrach Mensah Director Research Statistics and Information Management, both representing the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE).
Addressing the gathering, the newly elected Chairman of the Audit Committee, Mr. Samuel Gyekye Mensah, expressed gratitude to Management and fellow Committee members for the confidence reposed in him. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, dedication, and collective responsibility in ensuring the Committee effectively carries out its mandate.
“This assignment demands a shared commitment from all members. The effectiveness of the Committee depends on our collective efforts and dedication. Together, we must work diligently to ensure that the Ministry maintains the highest standards of accountability and presents itself creditably before Parliamentary Select Committees and external auditors,” he stated.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey urged Committee members to view their appointment as a national service and a solemn responsibility entrusted to them under the PFM Act to safeguard public resources. He stressed the need for the effective implementation of audit recommendations and encouraged members to remain abreast of developments in public financial management, including amendments to the Public Procurement Act and the introduction of commitment authorization processes.
The Audit Committee is expected to play a pivotal role in overseeing the implementation of audit recommendations, strengthening internal control systems, enhancing compliance with financial regulations, and supporting Management in advancing transparency, accountability, and good governance within the Ministry.
