Ghana joined other member states to participate in key meetings of the World Trade Organization (WTO), including the Committees on Safeguards, Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (SCM), and Anti-Dumping Practices (ADP), held from 27th to 30th April 2026 at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

These engagements form part of Ghana’s commitment to transparency, compliance, and active participation in the multilateral trading system.

A key highlight of Ghana’s participation was the SCM Committee meeting, where subsidy notifications submitted by member states are reviewed in line with global transparency requirements, while also providing member states the opportunity to clarify policy measures and respond to technical questions from other members.

Ghana submitted its notification on subsidies in accordance with Article 25 of the WTO Agreement on SCM, which requires member countries to disclose their subsidy programmes demonstrating the country’s continued commitment to transparency and adherence to global trade obligations.

Importantly, the meetings also provided a valuable platform for the delegation to deepen its understanding of the evolving WTO rules on subsidies and countervailing measures, and their implications for national trade policies and investment incentives. These insights are critical to ensuring that Ghana’s incentive frameworks, including those under the Free Zones Programme, remain competitive while fully compliant with international trade rules.
Through these engagements, Ghana continues to promote fair trade practices while advancing a competitive and compliant business environment.

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ghana to WTO, His Excellency Emmanuel Antwi, to brief the Mission on their objectives. The Ambassador emphasized the role of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) in driving export-led industrialization, investment, and competitiveness.

The Ghana delegation comprised officials from the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC), the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MOTAI), and the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA).
The GFZA was represented by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. Musah Sibiri Hamidu, and the Director of Corporate Affairs, Public Relations and Aftercare, Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, reinforcing the Authority’s role in advancing a conducive and compliant business environment.
