The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) held discussions in Barcelona with his Spanish counterpart, His Excellency José Manuel Albares Bueno on Friday, 17 April 2026.
He commended Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the Government of Spain for the flagship immigration policy, which aims to legalize and integrate 500,000 undocumented migrants already living in Spain at least 5 months before December 31st, 2025.

The new policy, which is being implemented between April 16, and end of June, 2026 ensures that rights of migrants are protected while offering them jobs.
This policy does not only guarantee legal status, dignity and employment for migrants, it offers skills development and multicultural harmony.

Honourable Ablakwa also highlighted steps put in place by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana to assist Ghanaian emigrants desirous of benefiting from the policy.
He further indicated the commitment of Government of Ghana in assisting with relevant official documents.
Ghana and Spain have also agreed to deepen cooperation in maritime security and to sign labour mobility agreements as soon as practicable.
